Which pet did Sophia choose?

She chose the Budgie
The budgie fit all the requirements. Sophia could play with her during the day, she would live in a cage, and Spophia didn’t have to feed anything that was alive.

What were the Clues?

Why not the hamster?
Sophia said she wanted her own pet that she could hold and play with during the day. The hamster was asleep when they were there and Sophia couldn’t pick him up. Hamsters are nocturnal.

Why not the snake?
Sophia’s mom said that the pet had to be a cage-dwelling animal that didn’t have to be fed anything live. When Alex picked up the Brown Snake, an earthworm fell from its mouth. The diet of the Brown Snake is slugs, snails and earthworms.
